Theme: The unlucky 13
Location: Ringberg Hotel
Here it is, my very first con report which I posted on FA shortly after the con. I went on very short notice since a few spots became available and Yamavu asked if I'd like to join. I was curious about furry conventions and did not have much of an idea what to expect! Nubi was nice enough to offer me a spot in his car together with Lions and Yamavu. I cringe a bit at my english, but I left it mostly like it was for authenticity!
Since I did not take any photos at this con, I added some photos other people made.
At about midnight, we started our trip at the Vienna Hütteldorf train station.. I wasn't looking forward to it too much, because I hate long trips by car. I met some furs the first time there, but all of them were very nice and stuff.. I slept most of the trip, still I felt damn wasted when we arrived at about 8 am or something..
The Hotel was quite empty, staff was sleeping, so I explored the con location a bit, and then sat down in the Lobby sketching a bit, still quite unsure what to expect from a furcon. Finally we got our rooms, I got my room-mate assigned randomly, but he didn't show up the whole day.. Also, I got a comfort room without paying more, quite a good start :D
The whole day was actually boring, everyone just registered, and so I went to bed - still without room-mate, awesome!
15€ for Brunch???!?!??! WTF I can't really remember what I did on this day.. Fursuits were strange, yet most were cute.. and Men hugging?!?! Actually I ended up hugging men too. In a non-gay-way. Dealers Den was full of porn.
I found an Art Book of Herbie there, which was the only thing I bought in the Dealers Den.
I also set up Stepmania in the lobby for people to play, which people have been doing all day.
The only SIG I was at was the Photography Roundtable.. met some really nice people there and came to try out some lenses I was keeping my eyes on for a while :)
There was some furdance as well which I also checked out.
I met Jaff-Fox! Awesome! Had some great time with him.. also with Tabbiefox and Yamavu and Lweek and Olven and other peeps. I doodled quite much, talked to random people, actually I have no idea what I did, but it was definitely fun.
Someone told me Herbie was there, so I spent really much time looking for him, without success though.
I watched the art sale.. paying 1000€ for some painting is quite crazy.. but ok, it makes the artist happy ;)
Also visited the Lecture of Lance Ikegawa on Fursuit construction.. damn interesting.. Watched a bit of the PawPet Show, but it was so crowded that I only saw parts.. But I think it was good, and they put really much work into it.. now I regret to have missed parts of it. Oh, and then, after asking Tristan where Herbie is, he told me and I was so nervous.. I mean he is like a drawing god for me, and I finally got to meet him.. He was awesome, gave me lots of useful advices for drawings, signed the Book for me with a giftart even.. And we talked a lot about animation :)
Also, I had some chat with Whiteyfawks, who was next to him, he's also an awesome guy :D
Later.. FURDANCE.. loaded with lots of glowsticks, I emptied 5 cans of beer and had fun dancing and doing other stupid things (like drawing on the breakfast dishes with tabbie) until 6 am.
The music was fucking awesome! and loud :] We even got Yamavu to get on the dancefloor o/
Said goodbye to everyone who I found in the crowd, and we started our trip home with a quick break at the asia-restaurant who made an exception for us, because normally he has closed on Sundays :) Full of food, we went back home, watching Lion King (cliche alarm!) and Balto.. I ended up buying a squirrel plushie at the Suben Gas station at the Austrian border :P
On the rest of the way I sketched a bit with Yamavu on my Wacom.. and..
