Furry Weekend Holland 2013

Location: The Labyrinth

This is a short report about the most awesome con last weekend. What con was last weekend? FWA, you will think. But there was a con even more awesome which is FWH - Furry Weekend Holland - in the world-famous city of Sleen!

Friday

Henrieke and I planned to arrive at 18:00 but the weather and roadwork made it a bit harder, it was raining and snowing the whole way and eventually we stopped at McDonald's for a burger as the FWH staff wrote there wouldn't be dinner but rather just a small snack at arrival. We arrived around 19:00, and said small snack were actually burgers (and most likely better than McDonalds). Well, next time we know that small snacks means tasty dinner ;)

The location was amazing, I already looked at it online and it really looked super nice. There were so many couches that every attendee could easily get a couch spot and the general atmosphere was living room. There was also a lot of space! A lot of awesome art this time too, including signs by Neo, Badges by BBF, T-Shirts by Titash, etc.

Comfy con!

We went to our nice room which we had all to ourselves since Tabbie sadly didn't make it and then spent the evening chatting with people. There was a dance going on in the cellar with lots of lasers and dancing suiters, but sadly I was too tired that evening to do much, so we went to bed around 1:00.

Saturday

Henrieke threw me out of bed at 10 to make sure I wouldn't miss out on the tasty pancakes the kitchen crew was making! After tasty breakfast, Henrieke lied down a bit again and I set up our little Dealers Den with Neo. There was a dedicated Dealers Den room, but it was rather dark in there so we just occupied a table upstairs. Henrieke eventually came and we spent the time drawing and selling very few things.

So many couches!

For lunch we had cauliflower-celery soup, and after lunch Baseball came out (and Neo suddenly disappeared during that time). After Baseball went back to the room again, I, Henrieke and Neo checked out the local Albert Heijn, got some Snacks and went to the tiny gift shop of the town where Neo and Henrieke got scented candle wax thingies that make the whole house smell like cinnamon or whatever.

Fresh stroopwafels!

Back at the con, Kiki got out and I took some photos of her! The location provided a (deadly) trampoline which was great for taking nice photos! Inside Kuma also took some great shots, then we went to the town center which was basically across the street and took more photos.

For dinner we had super tasty Gyros with Leeuw, Kuma and Kralle, sadly the Gyros was so tasty that nothing was left for some of the hard working staff anymore. Tani and Nightfox also visited the con for an evening that night, so we got to hang out a bit too!

Me, drawing.

Later Baseball went down to participate in the con again, this time with me mysteriously disappearing. Baseball and Henrieke discovered that there was a dance going on, the only strange thing was that there were no people in the dance room. So they made use for that for some great photos and then Baseball proceeded to drag people on the dancefloor.

Lasers are fun to play with!

After dancing a bit with Noodles and doing crazy shots with BBF, Baseball went to sleep, and shortly after Henrieke and I went to bed as well. Great day!

Sunday

We woke up and as we got down the great smell of bacon filled the room! We had some of that and eggs for breakfast and spent the morning socializing and drawing.

For lunch we had tasty wraps, then we sat there drawing again and watching episodes of Polar Bear's Café together. At 14:30 Henrieke and I went up to get Baseball down for the photoshoot that Kuma did again this year. He allowed me to use his studio setup to try taking a few pictures too, but I'm sure his are better since I have no experience with studio shooting at all!

After the photoshoot Baseball ran into BBF who filmed various stupid scenes for the con video (Batman references, of course). After that I took some more trampoline photos with Baseball when Pegla was also outside, playing with his AR.Drone.

For dinner we had (do I still have to mention tasty?) Dutch fries with stew and Tiramisu for dessert, yum! We drew a bit more random stuff, had some quality Shay time and I participated in another stupid Idea that escalated quickly (see BBF's con video when it comes out).

Tasty Tiramisu and Layown.

At one point Sithy called all people to the big back room and gave an inspirational speech, thanking all the staff and helpers (and everyone thanking her) for the hard work that made this great con possible. Titash got special thanks for the awesome T-Shirt work as he couldn't be there.

Henrieke drew on a coaster!

After chatting with lots of people and being too tired to draw, we gave up and went to bed around 2 since we had to get out of our rooms by 10:00 the next day.

Monday

We dragged ourselves out of bed at 9, packed all the stuff, vacuumed the room and had some more wraps for breakfast. We spent most of the time saying good bye to people, talked a bit more with Layown and left around 12:00. The weather turned better, so we headed for the Wissel Zoo which our Zodiac Zoos annual pass gave us free entrance to. It's a tiny zoo but it has lots of nice animals.

Conclusion

This concludes my little report for an amazing con! I had no choice but coming back after last year was so amazing, but all the staff managed to make this years con even 100 times better than last year! The location was perfect, lots of awesome people there, great food, great service, nothing I could possibly complain about! You'll see me there next year! :)
