Theme: Space Travel
Location: Hilton Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
Sadly due to COVID, there was no direct Thalys connection to Paris CDG, so we took a flight to FBL. We arrived at the airport at around 14:00 and walked over to the hotel. I don't remember what we did that day, but probably just hanging out with Yotie, unpacking and relaxing in the room.
At 20:00 we watched the opening ceremony, which was somewhat-in-English, which made it a bit easier to understand!
We also went to have dinner at the "fancy" dinner buffet from the Hilton. There was a huge line at first, and after we did very much not get what we paid for. The food was essentially airplane food quality. There was some pasta, some chicken and Pizza that was just.. bad (how does one mess up pizza, seriously). The promised dessert buffet was also completely absent. Furrtek and Yotie joked that the dinner buffet was sponsored by Gate Gourmet (A company doing airline catering)
Today we hung out in the lobby, checked out the Dealers Den and spent a lot of time art-jamming with Imalou and other artists! Baseball also got to join the art jam a bit.
We got up and had some breakfast, then Henrieke and I sat in the lobby a bit and drew. We pretty much skipped lunch, then hung out with Imalou and some other artists on the upper floor, doing trades!
Baseball also dropped by!
After Baseball left, I did a trade with Imalou.
At 18:00, we went to the Aeroville mall with Yotie and Furrtek! We checked out the comic shop, an Asian import shop and the toy store, then we all had dinner at a Japanese restaurant.
Sadly I had some allergy issues so I went to the room to steam as soon as we were back. Too bad that the Hilton had no Spa area. After that I went to the rubber panel, chatting with some people, then went back to our room where Yotie dropped by. We went downstairs and played some Uno and Boggle with Yotie.
After that I got Baseball out who went to the dance for a while. Baseball danced with lots of people and also met Tifou on the dance floor.
There were also 2 unfortunate people who were stuck in the elevator for many hours that night, eventually they were freed in a fairly un-safe way. Henrieke and Yotie were still hanging out on the upper floor when I was done suiting. We went to bed at 2:30.
We got up at 9:00 and went to get some breakfast. No pancakes available, bummer. Yotie joined us, then I went back to the room and slept until 13:00. I went down to meet Henrieke, then we went to Yotie's room. Yotie showed us Cookie Crisp Wolf, his latest acquisition.
I went through the Dealers Den after, then I went to check out the inflatable panel, it was too busy in the small room though. I sat in the lobby for a bit, then went back to the inflatable panel, which was a bit less busy at that time.
I spent some more time with Henrieke in the lobby, then we hung out on Yotie's room.
I decided to pick up dinner from McDonald's and went to the terminal with Imalou, Bloo Roo and 4 other french furries. It took us a while to find the one McDonald's that is accessible before security, but eventually we did find it.
I picked up take-away food while the others stayed there. Henrieke, Yotie and me had dinner on the room and watched some dumb YouTube videos. An hour later Imalou and the gang joined and we played some of the new Jackbox Party Pack 8 games.
After that Bloo Roo and Imalou went to the dance. Baseball also went down later and met both them and Tifou on the dance floor. The music was great, they also played some Caravan palace.
Later Baseball dropped by a room party, Henrieke joined as well.
I got out of my suit around midnight. Henrieke and I were chatting with Bloo Roo until 2:00, after that we went to bed.
We got up at 9:30, packed our stuff, had some breakfast and checked out. After saying good-bye to anyone we still met, we made our way to Parc Asterix, the Asterix theme park not far from Paris CDG.
I have never been there and made sure to not get any spoilers. It was a great day, we were mostly lucky with the weather until all the way at the end, where we made the mistake of riding the (really great) Osiris coaster, which is definitely not a good idea when it rains.
After that, Yotie dropped us off at the airport and we arrived back in Amsterdam around 23:00.
It was great to be at a con again after all this time! I didn't know many people at this con, but it was nice to hang out with Yotie and also meet Furrtek and Imalou for the first time! As for meeting new people, that was a bit hard since very few I met spoke English well enough to really hold a conversation, but that's France I guess!
